Michael Westling is passionate about the need for long-term care insurance. His personal and professional experiences within the long-term care industry have reinforced his belief that long-term care insurance is the best way a family can protect itself from the high emotional and financial costs of a long-term care crisis. In Michael's experience, long-term care insurance is not only a tool that helps protect retirement portfolios, but an excellent way to provide clients and their caregivers with peace-of-mind.
In 2004, Michael's parents were involved in a serious auto accident. His mother had to be placed in a nursing home and his father in an assisted-living facility. As their primary caregiver, power-of-attorney, trustee and executor of their wills, Michael has found himself living through a long-term care catastrophe. Even more, Michael is a member of the "Sandwich Generation," a large subset of baby-boomers who are not only responsible for caring for their minor children, but their parents as well. Michael's unique experiences help him to see long-term planning issues through his clients' eyes and allow him to help them prepare for the unexpected.
Michael joined Newman Long Term Care as a member of the Professional Partnership Program® in December of 2006. He has been a part of the sales and marketing industry for nearly 30 years. He began his insurance career with GE Financial in 2003 as a Long Term Care Insurance Representative. Prior to that he was Vice President of Marketing at a senior housing consulting firm in Minneapolis, and worked as the Director of Marketing and the Sales Manager for a national communications company, where he led his sales team to be the top regional dealer.
Michael attended the University of Minnesota, where he pursued a degree in Business Administration. He is also a 1990 graduate of the Dale Carnegie Sales Training program. He is a Certified Long Term Care Specialist, member of the National Association of Insurance and Financial Advisors, and was named a Senior Housing Marketing Specialist by the National Council on Senior Housing.
Michael lives with his wife and two teenage children in Eagan, Minn. He has an extensive professional development library and enjoys golfing, camping, fishing and hunting.
